Scottie Scheffler with another Major in the bag, Mimi Rhodes keeps on keeping on with her third LET title, and Gina Kim grinds out a win in tough conditions. Read on for this week's recap…

It was world number one Scottie Scheffler who again led the field and showed he is a class above to claim his first Wanamaker Trophy at the PGA Championship. We said last week he was sure to feature up the pointy end of the leaderboard come the weekend and, despite a slow start (by his standards), he set himself up with a busy moving day to give himself the 54-hole lead and an unassailable lead down the stretch. As we have come to expect, Scheffler got himself off to a solid start with rounds of 68 and 69, whilst plenty in the field were struggling with the conditions which left the cut at +1. A polished 6-under (65) on Saturday saw Scheffler sleep on the lead in what looked like an appetising leaderboard heading into Sunday. However, the challenges couldn’t rally and soon ran out of holes to chase down the world number one. As they attempted to force it, errors crept in which allowed Scheffler to pull away and eventually win by 5 shots with a score of 11-under. The win further solidifies his standing in the world of golf and ensures he retains his position at the top of the rankings for some time yet. LIV golfers DeChambeau, Niemann and Rahm all finished inside the 'top-10 and ties' and looked a chance at various times throughout Sunday, however couldn’t get themselves within reach prior to the Green Mile, which dismantled any of their efforts to get to the front. A 65 on Sunday saw Harris English roar up the leaderboard and finish T2 alongside DeChambeau and Riley, the latter looking in good form ahead of defending his title this weekend. The best of the Aussies were Cam Davis and Adam Scott who both finished amongst a host of players on 2-under and in T19.

England’s Mimi Rhodes continued her impressive rookie season as she clinched her third LET title at the Dutch Ladies Open. Rhodes, despite being a rookie, has looked a class above at times this season and continued to show signs of this maturity as she pulled away to win by two shots. Three wins in four starts ensures she remains at the top of the order of merit and you would think she will remain a threat for the remainder of the LET season. Starting Sunday with a share of the lead, Rhodes knew she would need to play some of her better golf to get the job done, and with a relatively clean scorecard and three birdies, she did exactly that. The clubhouse lead was set earlier in the day by 22-year old American Brianna Navarrosa who shot an impressive 6-under on Sunday, however it wasn’t enough and Rhodes chased that down with ease. Navarrosa finished in T2 alongside home favourite Anne van Dam. Best of the Aussies was Maddison Hinson-Tolchard who finished in T53 on +3.

Copper Rock Golf Course delivered its worst conditions of the week for the EPSON Tour field on Sunday, ensuring whoever won the title was sure to have earnt it. Gina Kim, one of only three players in the final five groups to shoot under-par rounds, ground out a deserving win. Kim started the day in the penultimate group and made her move early to establish the lead. Three birdies in four holes and it looked like a sure thing, however a stumble down the stretch allowed the chasing pack a look-in and an interesting finish to the championship. The 72nd hole decided it and a 3-under (69) by Kim was enough to win by one shot ahead of Carla Tejedo Mulet and Melanie Green. Best of the Aussies was Soo Jin Lee however she unfortunately did not make the weekend this time around.

Up Ahead

The PGA is back in Texas this week for the Charles Schwab Challenge, which is played at the Colonial Country Club. The tournament features a purse of $USD 9.5 Million and offers 500 points towards the FedEx Cup. Defending champion is Davis Riley who won last year with a score of 16-under. As always, it’ll be interesting to see who bounces back from last week or who continues their run of form.

The LPGA is off to the Mexico Riviera Maya Open this week which is hosted at the El Camaleon Golf Course. The event carries a purse of $USD 2.5 Million along with 500 Points in the Race to CME Globe.

The DP World Tour resumes it’s European Swing this week as players will tee it up at the Soudal Open in Belgium. Rinkven International Golf Course is the venue and Nacho Elvira is the defending champion from last year. The event carries a purse of $USD 2.75 Million along with 3,500 Points in the Race to Dubai and 1000 Points towards the Ryder Cup standings.

The Asian Tour heads to Korea this week for the Kolon Korea Open presented by ELORD. This tournament will be played at La Vie Est Belle (Dunes Course). Last years winner was Minkyu Kim and the event offers a purse of KRW 1,400 Million.

The Ladies European Tour are straight back into it as they head to the Jabra Ladies Open which will be played at the Evian Resort Golf Club in France. This event carries a prize fund of €300,000 and Morgane Metraux is the defending champion.

LET Access players will descend on Sudburgenland of the Allegria Golf Resort in Austria this week to tee it up at the Allegria Stegersbach Ladies Open. This event offers a purse of €50,000 and it will be interesting to see who has freshened up after the week off.

The Liv Golf League has about a month off now before they resume competition at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Washington DC. Liv Golf DC will be the final tune-up for a few in the field who will be competing at the U.S Open, the most obvious being Bryson who will be defending that title. The EPSON Tour is also off on a break until they resume business in early June for the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.

That’s it for this week, I hope it covered what you were after and if not, feel free to get in touch and offer some suggestions so we can improve the blog here at The Monday Mulligan. We are stoked to be back and capturing the highs and lows across the world of golf.

That’s it for now, stay safe and play well!

Play well,

TMM
